The second speaker Dr Prasad gave practical tips on prevention. I felt a real connection with him as I have been recommending Nasal Oil and Oil pulling in the mouth - these are areas where the virus enters.   Makes sense to strengthen the ability of nasal passages and mouth lining's ability to create antibodies to the virus.  This has been documented by science from the University of Buffalo that the lining of the nasal and oral mucosa create the first antibody to the virus. Immunoglobulin A.  So science is confirming what Ayurveda says.  Your nasal passages and mouth are your first line of defence.  The nose oil I personally use and recommend is

Second Speaker: Dr Prasad

In the last 17 months we have dealt with this pandemic with individuals and in a societal way.  Ayurveda traditionally focuses on each person. We can say that it is PRO-HOST.


Health is a positive expression proper engagement with seasons and senses and physical mental and spiritual plains of existence.


Food and life style DHINACHARYA is important.  Season is most important.  Peak of summer to the monsoons seasons in Kerala is an example  when everything changes.  Routine needs to change.  Whether a common fever or COVID need to take this into consideration.


Importance of sleep is emphasized, either deprivation or untimely sleep. This makes a big difference. 


Medicines: for preventions, these are working well with anyone:

1.Nasal applications - ANUTALIAM

2.Gargles or warm water with salt. ginger, tulsi or turmeric

3.Inhalations - steam turmeric tulsi etc same herbs as gargles 

4. Fumigations - herbs and spices from kitchen are used traditionally in the evening in domestic setting. This is a usual practice in most traditional household.

5. Internal medicines- only if needed.


In beginning we were giving lots of medicines,  overprescribing but now we only prescribe if essential. We are using food, local, seasonal, home prepared.


We assess the bowels movements and consistency of stool. Because this shows poor or good digestion. Also level of physical activity.


To maintain the AGNI - or DIGESTIVE FIRE. It’s important not to put our the fire with snacks so NO SNACKING very important  to maintain AGNI or digestive fire the ability to digest food. Not overeating or eating to late before bed.


Virtuous living is very important. 4 limbs of lifestyle are very important.


REASSURANCE IS MOST IMPORTANT. THE PANIC CREATED EVERYWHERE IS THE BIGGEST CONCERN - IT MAKES THE DISEASE MORE ABLE TO ENTER.


FEAR OF DEATH IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE - STATUS IF MIND IS IMPORTANT.


SHORTNESS OF BREATH, HEAD HEAVINESS AND CHEST HEAVINESS - are most common post covid complaints,  Tiredness loss of appetite and loss of sleep ( big issue)  These are addressed in usual Ayurveda intervention .  If there are some surges of fevers - need to be monitored.


Medicated waters, soups and medicated buttermilk 

Oil massages are started slowly, GHEE is important in regeneration and care.
