GERD - Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Today I am posting my response to a letter I received from a grateful client. She attended a presentation on Shaka Vansya Ayurved last October in Sechlet and acted upon a suggestion I made.  Dear Friends of Shaka Vansya Ayurved, I would like to report one success from the “Smart Water” recipe that I sent to everyone.  It was someone who suffered for 5-6 years with GERD - Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder. This is a disease of the digestive tract where the acid in the stomach does not continue on its path to the intestine and get neutralized but instead comes back up the esophagus.  Sometimes we call it “heart burn” and in severe cases it can start to burn the lining of the esophagus or more. The usual treatment is with drugs called PPI’s or Proton Pump Inhibitors which work on the stomach to reduce the production of acid. Here is her story of gratitude.  *************************************************************************************************** Dear Elizabeth,

On Sept 12, 2015 a group of enthusiastic Yoga practitioners gathering in the forested amphitheatre at Porpoise Bay provincial park.  The sun was glistening through the trees and just 200 feet down the trail there was a mother bear and her cubs feeding on the salmon that had come to spawn. The gathering was to learn more about Shaka Vansya Ayurved. Elizabeth Innes was the speaker. Yes it was a gorgeous sunny afternoon in the forest. A perfect place to learn more about Prana moving into our body and how to balance body/minds for more vitality and health. We started with the basic principle of Space/Ether, Solar, and Lunar energies and how they become Vata, Pitta, Kapha in our physical forms.  How the doshas of V,P and K shift and change every 4 hours in the circadian cycle of the day. After breaking up into groups and doing a questionnaire to get a glimpse into our body type we then went on to examine what foods and spices are best to balance the doshas. Not only in Shaka Vansya Ay

Purity of Knowledge

The power of the media is great. I found that out a few weeks ago when the article I submitted to our local community paper published my 200 word article. Not only that they also put my picture on the front page - the whole page.  60 People showed up for my talk. Only a hand full had heard of Ayurved in the past and most of them were seeking help for various health issues. The next days I also hit Facebook with people commenting on my talk. I was surprised that they did not really hear what I said and posted recipes from other teachers and connected them to me. Wow! misquoted on my first step into public view. Correction were made at my request. I did not want to be responsible for bringing misunderstanding into Shaka Vansya Ayurved. We know that Ayurved is an ancient knowledge and I am blessed to have a teacher, Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra, who can trace his lineage back thousands of years and also teachers from the ancient Vedic texts. He calls his approach "Sutra to Science&quo

headaches

When I am working at the drugstore in my capacity as a community pharmacist one of the common complaints that presents itself is people coming in to buy Tylenol ( acetaminophen) or Advil (ibuprofen) or Aleve (naproxen) for headaches. Of course there is also Tylenol #1 which is a mixture of acetaminophen, caffeine and codeine. I am always amazed when the same people come on a regular basis and buy upto 200 tablets.  I always say "Before taking a tablet for your headache be sure you drink 2 -8 oz cups of water and then wait 10 minutes."  It has been my personal experience that when I wake up with a headache, I am often dehydrated. I drink 2-3 cups of water which often induces a bowel movement and 99% of the time the headache is gone. So before reaching for the tablet for pain be sure you drink that water. Also you might consider adding "Smart Water" to your daily routine. The herbs help to carry the water into the cellular systems. This is important because often th
