The liver and toxins

Modern day chemicals are everywhere. They get into our food and water as herbicides and pesticides. They are applied to our skin as cosmetics. Even most of the toothpaste and shampoo that you buy at the drug store has Sodium lauryl sulfate in it whose safety is questionable.

Everything that is taken orally and passes from our mouth to the stomach and then the intestines is transferred from the intestinal tract by a bed of capillaries to the portal vein and then the liver.  The liver is the only organ that has two veins entering.  One vein from the general circulation and the other from the digestive tract.  The portal vein from the digestive tract is know as "First Pass Metabolism".  All the plasma coming the liver via the portal vein is then "metabolized" by the liver into intelligent blood that is then sent into the general metabolism.

The "First Pass" through the liver is the body's way of protecting us from anything we ingest that might not be beneficial to our particular system.  Vaidya Mishra used to say, "All the dumb food we eat the liver has to transform into intelligent blood".  Using Ayurvedic terminology we would say that the liver has "5 burners" that correspond to the 5 elements of earth, water, fire, space and ether.  These burners are specific for each of the elements.  In modern science we would use the terminology of "enzyme pathways" the CYTP450 pathway is the one that metabolizes most drugs.  Pharmacologist consider this a problem as most drugs that we take, the liver metabolized or binds (conjugates) and makes them less active.  So in effect the body has a mechanism to detoxify the drugs we ingest.  However from a more holistic perspective what the liver is doing is protecting the body/mind.

Because of the vast amount of foreign chemicals that the body is exposed to, the liver is working overtime.  It then becomes inflamed or "HOT"  This terminology of a 'HOT LIVER' is important to understand.  Once the liver is overworked it is unable to even properly digest the food we eat.  Then we become "sensitive" or allergic to certain foods.  In a mild form it might manifest as a runny nose or sneezing but in an extreme case it would send someone into anaphylactic shock.  I have a friend who is extremely allergic to a protein found in all peppers: black, green, yellow, red, you name it. She has to carry an epi-pen just in case some pepper got into her food. She would die.  Some people are allergic to nuts, fish, eggs, strawberries and gluten being the most common one.

In conversation with a student of Dr Mishra I found out that when Vaidya came from India he discovered that the protocols that he had used successfully in India did not work on the western physiology.  We could not tolerate was herbs because out liver were so hot.  He was stymied. He than cognized a solution. He had to cool the liver and develop another way of sending the intelligence of the herbs into the body/mind.

Cooling the liver was done by using his specially formulated "Liver Clay" and then applying de-glycerated licorice transdermally (DGL) over the liver.  This would cool the liver enough to then allow other herbs to be given transdermally and via "glyceride drops".  This is a big topic and more will come in the next few days.
