Full moon and new moon

In Shaka Vansiya Ayurved - the influence of the moon and the sun on our lives is taken into consideration.

The effect of the sun is obvious in the circadian cycle of day and night.  The time when the sun is highest in the sky is the best time to digest food so it is recommended that we eat our biggest meal at this time. In early morning and later in the evening the digestive fire is less prominent and we need to eat light meals so that the undigested food (called AMA - white  sticky stuff on back of your tongue in the morning) does not clog our channels.

The effect of the moon is more subtle.  Lunar energy also known as SOMA is the nourishing energy. During the time of the full moon and new moon the SOMA or lunar energy is more pronounced on the earth and all its creatures including us humans.  SVA recommends reducing or eliminating foods that are SOMAGENIC - like grains for 4 days prior to both the new moon and full moon.  Then we can directly take in the SOMA that is coming to us from the moon.  By eliminating grain which usually supply soma we can access the more refined SOMA that has a deep and profound nourishing effect on us.

Give it a try.  Many people feel the energy of the moon at full moon and new moon time on an emotional level.  My eliminating grains and eating more lightly for 4 days before both new and full moon times you may find that you are more connected the the healing energies of Mother Nature and her Cosmic Intelligence.
