winter routine

Someone called me today to say that they wanted to do a cleanse. You can read some of the early posting about cleanses. However just to review. The best time to move toxins out of the body is in the spring and fall. Winter is the least ideal time to detox or cleanse to body of toxins. During the winter months every things is shrinking and preserving - the nadis or bioelectrical channels as well at the shrotos or physical channels. During the winter we want to nourish and rest.

However that said we can maintain the body in a well hydrated stated. One simple recommendation is Vaidya Mishra's herbal tea. This magical formula has a profound effect on the mind/body. Remember - boil 1 to 2 liters of good spring water and add 1/2 to 1 tsp of Corainder seed, fennel seed, a pinch of marshmellow root and 2 fresh mint leaves or a bag of mint tea. This is a mild tasting tea and supports many of the internal organs. And most importantly the marshmellow root protects the lining of the channels so that if some harsh toxin is being eliminated the channels will not be damaged.

Som other protective foods are - zuccinni, okra, diakon radish, tapioca, oat meal. You will notice that all these foods have a somewhat slimy quality - the lubricates and coats the linings of the different shrotas ( or channels - everythings from the large channels like the intestinal tracts to the fine microscopic channels in the cells walls.

Also it is most important to maintain good bowel function. regular routine - going to be before 10 PM and gentle exercise in the morning - either a brisk walk or some yoga.

Maintain your evening in some uplifting activity. All these things will contribute to maintaining balance in the mind/body and then when spring shows its beautiful face and the body will naturally start to cleanse we can support it with various processes.
